Keeping your computer Secure
by Larry McLemore

4inkjets! For All Your Printer Needs

There are steps that you can take to help keep your computer free of viruses, spyware and hackers. I have listed some suggestions below. You can obtain all that you need for free, except for the wireless router. Wireless routers have come way down in price and you should be able to get one from a local electronics chain store for as little as $20. Watch here for good deals on wireless routers, www.salescircular.com

  • Keep your security programs up to date
  • Watch which web sites you visit, get McAfee Site Advisor, www.siteadvisor.com/download/ie It is FREE
  • Don't open any attachments that you receive in an email, unless you are positive where they are coming from and only if you trust the person who is sending them.
  • Make sure you have an Antivirus program, a Spyware program and a Malware program in place on your computer. These programs are all FREE, Spybot www.spybot.com, Avast antivirus www.avast.com, AVG antivirus www.grisoft.com
  • If you are using a Microsoft operating system, make sure that you have automactic updates turned on
  • Connect a wireless router to your computer, even if you are not operating a wireless network. Most routers have a built in firewall.
